HEART HEALTH

Regular exercise has a favorable effect on many of the established risk factors for cardiovascular disease. For example, exercise promotes weight reduction and can help reduce blood pressure. Exercise can reduce “bad” cholesterol levels in the blood (the low-density lipoprotein [LDL] level), as well as total cholesterol, and can raise the “good” cholesterol (the high-density lipoprotein level [HDL]). In diabetic patients, regular activity favorably affects the body’s ability to use insulin to control glucose levels in the blood.

Brian has worked at Lismore Base Hospital in cardiac rehabilitation and offers a weekly heart health class that is safe and fun!

Whether you're recovering from a heart attack, or heart surgery or simply have Cardiovascular risk factors, this class is designed for you.

For piece of mind the clinic has an automated electronic defibrillator (AED) onsite.

BUILDING BONES

Exercise, and in particular resistance training is recognised as one of the most effective lifestyle strategies to help make bones as strong as possible,  greatly reducing the risk of fractures later in
life.

"For adults, a combination of progressive resistance training with a variety of moderate impact weight-bearing activities is most effective for increasing bone density or preventing the bone loss that occurs with age."

Osteoperosis Australia 2013

Hip fractures have been found to be as much as 38-45% lower in older adults who are physically active in their daily life, compared to less active people.
